How to Choose an Epoxy Flooring Contractor in BC

Updated

Most epoxy floors that fail do so because of how they were installed, not because of the product. Here are the questions worth asking any contractor, including us.

1. How will you prepare the concrete?

Look for diamond grinding (or shot blasting on big commercial floors), plus crack and pit repair. Be cautious about acid etching or "just a pressure wash" on a garage floor. Coatings over poorly prepped concrete are the ones that peel under hot tires.

2. Will you test for moisture?

Moisture coming up through the slab is a leading cause of bubbling and lifting, especially in basements and low-lying areas. A good installer checks first and adjusts the system if needed.

3. What exactly is the system?

Ask for the layers: primer or base coat, flake or colour, topcoat, and how thick each is. A UV-stable topcoat, such as polyaspartic, holds colour better than plain epoxy.

4. What's the schedule and cure time?

You should know how many days the crew will be on site, when you can walk on the floor, and when you can park on it.

5. Are you insured, and what is in the written quote?

In BC, ask about liability insurance and WorkSafeBC coverage. Make sure the written quote spells out the prep, products, number of coats and what the job does and does not include.

6. Can I see real work and reviews?

Ask for photos of their own projects and read their Google reviews. Generic stock photos are a red flag.
