Polyaspartic vs Epoxy Floor Coatings: Which Suits Vancouver?
Updated
Epoxy and polyaspartic are both two-part resin coatings, but they behave differently. Many of the best garage systems use both.
Epoxy
Epoxy bonds well to properly ground concrete and builds up thickness affordably, which makes it a good base coat. It cures relatively slowly, and most epoxies yellow or chalk in direct sunlight.
Polyaspartic
Polyaspartic (a type of polyurea) cures fast, is UV-stable, and is very abrasion resistant, so it makes an excellent clear topcoat. Because it cures quickly, it needs an experienced crew to apply well.
Why combine them
An epoxy base coat with flake and a polyaspartic topcoat gives you a strong bond, good thickness, a colour that doesn't yellow, and a tough, easy-clean surface. For a rainy climate, adding a little texture to the topcoat keeps it grippy when wet.
Which is right for you?
It depends on sunlight exposure, traffic, chemicals, and how soon you need the space back. We'll recommend a system once we've seen the floor.
